Introducing the vibrant Red Nerve plant, also known as the Mosaic Plant, from the Fittonia albivenis species. Hailing from Peru, these spreading tropical evergreen perennials are a delightful addition to any indoor or outdoor space. Non-toxic and fuzzy, they are safe for pets and reptiles alike. Currently available in Red, White, and Pink varieties, these plants belong to the Verschaffeltii Group of Fittonia albivenis.
The 'Mini Red' Nerve plants boast 1-2” green leaves adorned with a striking netting of red veins or nerves, adding a splash of color to any setting. While they may bloom with tiny yellow or white flowers in the Spring, it's their vibrant foliage that steals the spotlight.
Ideal for terrariums, fairy gardens, houseplants, or as bedding, the 'Mini Red' can also thrive in hanging planters, cascading gracefully as they grow. Regularly pinching off leggy shoots encourages a fuller, bushier growth pattern.
Your 'Mini Red' will arrive in a 2" plastic nursery pot or upgrade to a 2.5” terra cotta pot for an additional charge. With proper care, they can reach heights of 3 - 12” and trail or spread up to 18 inches.
Basic Care:
- Keep indoors when temperatures drop below 55 degrees F. Cold-hardy outdoors in Zones 10-11, in bright shade.
- Prefers bright indirect light; avoid direct sun exposure.
- Keep soil consistently moist; under-watering can lead to dramatic wilting, but they will bounce back with proper hydration.
- Use room temperature water to avoid shocking the plant.
- Increase humidity by misting or placing on a tray of rocks or pebbles.
- Fertilize weekly with a weak, balanced fertilizer during the growing season from Spring to Fall for optimal growth and vibrancy.
