Indian mint ajwain, also known as Mexican mint, is a fast-growing plant with broad, oval-shaped leaves that are often used in Indian cuisine. The leaves have a strong aroma that's been described as a pungent combination of oregano and a sharp mint-like flavor. Ajwain is also known by other names, including: Ajwain/Patharchur in Hindi, Ova Paan in Marathi, Country borage, and Cuban oregano.
Ajwain contains fiber, antioxidants, and other nutrients, and may have some health benefits, such as improving cholesterol levels and indigestion. It's also often used in traditional medicine for its potential respiratory health benefits, as its natural antibacterial and antiviral properties can help relieve cough and cold symptoms.
This plant is very easy to grow, almost like a weed! Repot to a larger pot and give plenty of water for large leaves. Commonly dipped in batter and fried like fritters.
