This small, aromatic evergreen tree or shrub is native to India and is a staple of Indian cooking and culture. Its leaves are used to flavor many dishes, especially curries with coconut milk or fish, and have a unique flavor with notes of citrus. Curry leaves are also valued in Ayurvedic medicine for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antidiabetic properties. Curry leaf plants can be grown indoors or outdoors, and prefer warm climates with at least six to eight hours of sun per day. They also need fertile soil and can benefit from occasional fertilization with an organic or NPK fertilizer.
